Any issue with your spine is bound to affect your entire body. A misaligned spine, for example, is a common condition in which a part of the spine is out of position. When this happens, it can lead to nerve-related issues as well as unpleasant symptoms in more than just your back. If the spine is misaligned, it can affect a lot of different parts of the musculoskeletal system.

A misaligned spine could be the result of various issues, such as an accident, repetitive and overuse injuries, and degenerative diseases. Regardless of the cause, when the spine is misaligned, it can cause a variety of symptoms, such as:

Neck and Back Stiffness

A misaligned spine can cause joint stiffness in the neck or back, depending on where the misalignment exists. The stiffness is caused by aggravated nerves as a result of pressure or force against them due to the spinal misalignment. Some people feel the stiffness immediately after waking up or after prolonged periods of sitting or laying down. It is also possible to feel the stiffness after taking part in physical activities.

Aches and Pains

Chronic pain is one of the symptoms of a misaligned spine. Depending on where the misalignment is, whether it’s higher up the spine or in the lumbar region, it could cause headaches and neck and back pain. The spinal cord is a conduit between the brain and the nerves throughout the body. The trouble with the signals due to a spinal cord irritation can cause irritation and inflammation, which can lead to pain in various parts of the body, including the legs, arms, and shoulders. It is also common to experience numbness or a tingling sensation in one or more extremities as a result of spine misalignment.

Many times, people misinterpret pain in their extremities and do not realize it is caused by a spine-related problem. This is why it’s important to see a chiropractor who can assess whether your symptoms are related to an issue you may not have thought of, such as spinal misalignment.

Fatigue

Our bodily movements rely on the signals that are passed from the brain and spinal cord to nerves located all throughout the body. When nerves are irritated because of a spine misalignment, you may feel an unusually higher level of fatigue. You may feel like you are dragging yourself to keep moving even after getting ample rest. This symptom is often misinterpreted because no one relates tiredness with a spine problem. However, this is a very common symptom.
