There is a way to get tested for COVID-19 while limiting your exposure to others and vice-versa. You don’t even have to step out of your vehicle or make the trip to a hospital or clinic! This is called drive-through testing.

COVID-19 drive-through testing is a great way to get tested for the virus if you are showing symptoms or if you have plans to travel that require a negative COVID-19 test. All in all, it is quick and easy, and highly convenient – and you can get your results in just a few days.

Let’s talk about how to prepare for your COVID-19 drive-through test.

How To Prepare for Your Drive-Through Test

There is not a lot that you need to do to prepare for your drive-through test. Fortunately, the process is very easy and quick. Here are a few things to remember:

  1. Make an appointment. Most drive-through testing sites require an appointment. You can usually make one online or by calling the testing site. You may need to fill out an online assessment form. Be prepared to answer questions about your health history and current symptoms. Showing up to a facility without a prior scheduled appointment is not a good idea. You may have to come back at another time in such a situation.
  2. Have your documents in order. Make sure you have a valid ID and insurance information ready to go. Some testing facilities will work with certain insurance plans only, so make sure to check out whether your insurance is accepted beforehand. Have these documents ready when you pull up for testing.
  3. Follow on-site directions. When you arrive at the testing site, follow any posted instructions or directions from staff members. This will help keep the process running smoothly and efficiently.
  4. Bring your own vehicle and stay in your car. Taking an Uber or Lyft defeats the purpose of drive-through testing and puts the driver at risk. In most cases, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle throughout the entire process – from check-in to sample collection to results pickup – so it’s important that you bring your own car instead of relying on public transportation or a ride-hailing service, which may not want to stick around for your appointment.

Getting tested can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by identifying people who are infected but don’t yet know it, so they can isolate themselves and avoid infecting others. It also helps you conveniently fulfill requirements for travel. Drive-through testing is an excellent and convenient way to get tested. Fortunately, there isn’t much prep you need to do to get ready for drive-through testing, which makes it an even more attractive method.
